The La Plata Humane Society has agreed to provide our lovely dog "models" for the class. All supplies are included, and an experienced teacher will be there to give you guidance along the way. We will mix creativity with pleasure as we unwind from a busy week, enjoy a happy hour drink, spend time with other artists, and most importantly enjoy the opportunity to sit, relax and draw a very patient dog.

Figure drawing is the practice of drawing from a live model in different poses. It trains your eye to see things that photographs just can’t capture. This makes you more perceptive in all of your work—The biggest reason to practice with live animals is because it has so much to offer. Mastering the animal form is about more than just shapes and muscles and bones.

A $10 Tip or Chew Toy is Required for our models and will go directly to the LaPlata County Humane Society. Beginners are welcome!  This class is also perfect for adults with previous drawing experience.

Discover the joy and magic of light through stained glass! In this 2 day, 3 hours per day workshop, students will learn the basics of stained glass. Techniques being taught include: cutting, grinding, foiling, assembling, soldering, finishing, and the proper safety steps to take along the way. Students will have 2 pre-drawn designs, a variety of colors to choose from and leave at the end of the workshop with a finished Gnome Stained Glass Plant Stake! 

The Duality Exhibition will communicate the relationship, interconnections and perceptions of oneself. Exploring the seen and unseen. This exhibit observes Duality through a range of media, materials, technology and techniques. An interactive experience and opportunity to establish a shared identity and sense of belonging among diverse groups.

DYT JR Company members (3rd-5th grade) will be able to hone their performance skills with this 3 week theatre camp. JR Company members will spend the days working on theatre skills such as voice and movement techniques, terminology, character development, and memorization techniques all using stage games and theatre exercises. This intensive summer art program will include an outreach with emphasis on creating artwork that will benefit our community, which will include hand-built ceramic pots, containing gardens of food for others and print-making, used in up-cycling clothing, We will also experience drawing, ink drawing, and oil painting.
This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, learn valuable life skills all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come. Lessons on leadership from many of our community members are always included with our program.  Artists teach in their areas of expertise and mentor the students through sharing their work and lives as artists.This program offers young people, ages 11 to 13, regardless of expression or identity, the opportunity to experience art, leadership and art based opportunities. During this program we will be exploring our community in Durango and how we can give back as creatives. During this week, students will be learning a plethora of art skills from a variety of different guest artist instructors. We will take some of those skills to paint a Mural to help beautify our community. Students will also take these skills and will focus on finding the value in another man's trash as we travel down the river trail finding materials to turn into found object sculptures. During this trip, we will explore the local art and learn how it helps make a difference in our society.

During each day, the students will also have the option of taking a creative break to learn circus skills so they can exercise both their body and minds.

This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, learn valuable life skills all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come.

Art About Me offers a variety of delightful projects for our Mini-Masters!! Students will learn Picasso Portraits with oil pastels, sculpting pets and favorite animals out of air-dry and sculpy clay, creating their favorite place using collage, and much more!

The DAC Clay Club offers a vareity of open-studio ceramic projects including a weekly clay challenge! Learn the entire clay process of reclaiming, building, glazing and firing. This year's annual winter market is going to be bigger and better than ever but we need YOU and your beautiful work. We are seeking all media: Jewelry, 2-D and 3-D art, pottery, textiles, mixed media, hand-made clothing and toys for children, children's books by local authors/illustrators, and art that makes great gifts for everyone! The Durango Arts Center is pleased to invite all community artists, jewelers and crafters to submit their work for the "2024 Gift Gallery", Opening Friday, November 8th 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Event ends Januray 4th, 2025. Gifts for men, teens and children greatly appreciated.

The La Plata Humane Society has agreed to provide our lovely dog "models" for the class. All supplies are included, and an experienced teacher will be there to give you guidance along the way. We will mix creativity with pleasure as we unwind from a busy week, enjoy a happy hour drink, spend time with other artists, and most importantly enjoy the opportunity to sit, relax and draw a very patient dog.

Figure drawing is the practice of drawing from a live model in different poses. It trains your eye to see things that photographs just can’t capture. This makes you more perceptive in all of your work—The biggest reason to practice with live animals is because it has so much to offer. Mastering the animal form is about more than just shapes and muscles and bones.

A $10 Tip or Chew Toy is Required for our models and will go directly to the LaPlata County Humane Society. Beginners are welcome!  This class is also perfect for adults with previous drawing experience.

In this fun-filled, muddy, adult class, enjoy a glass of wine or other adult beverage, and create a Ceramic Menorah using slab-building techniques! Be exposed to variety of ceramic techniques, as you create a One-of-a-Kind Ceramic Menorah, just in time for Hanukkah! 
All supplies, laughter, beverage and an exceptional teacher, Ben Dukeminier, are included in this very special class. By the end of the evening your piece will be ready to be left to dry. You will select a glaze which will be applied to your ceramic piece when fired or you can glaze it yourself (how fun) at a later date. Pieces will be ready to use by Hanukkah, December 7th! Look for an email telling you when you can pick up your One-Of-A-Kind Menorah.

Opening reception, April 12th, 2024.  Events ends May 11th. Please register here to show your work. Limit to 10 pieces, unless specified. Artwork that is not for sale or professionally presented and/or ready to hang, Will Not Be Accepted.
Gallery event is free to the public. 
After registration, you will be contacted to set up a time to deliver your artwork to the DAC.

Express yourself through painting and develop your artistic style in this inspiring class! Come join Deena Carney and variety of amazing instructors and learn how to paint using different painting mediums, from April to May! Students will be exposed to a variety of tips, tricks and techniques used in creating masterpieces in acrylic, oils, gouache, and watercolor. Beginners are welcome! This class is also perfect for students with previous painting experience or have taken this class before. Give yourself time and space to paint, laugh, and make new friends in an educational, non-judgmental environment! 8 Classes, all supplies are included!

Mondays will become your favorite day of the week (Yes, you did read that right)!  In this fun-filled muddy class, students will focus on two modes of creating functional ware and sculpture, through hand building and wheel throwing. Learn the entire clay process and see what it takes to become a successful potter, with two amazing instructors by your side, in a non-judgmental, artistic environment.

The DAC Clay Club offers a vareity of open-studio ceramic projects including a weekly clay challenge! Learn the entire clay process of reclaiming, building, glazing and firing. Come join Mr B for 10 weeks of clay and creativity! 

This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come.

Durango Youth Theatre - DYT Company Middle School+
Wednesdays 1/10/2024 - 5/19/2024 4:00-6:00pm $400

Students will take their theatre skills to the next level in the DYT Company Class. The DYT Company members will make up the principal cast of the MAY DAC mainstage production 5/17-19/2024.(Title TBD) *There will also be extra rehearsals on SATURDAY 5/11 and the week of May 13th leading up to opening night.
Along with rehearsing for the show, the cast will polish and work on their theatre skills through lessons and exercises geared towards character development, vocal qualities and techniques, Improv, focus, and physical movement.

Durango Youth Theatre - DYT Jr Company 3rd-5th Grade
Tuesdays 1/9/2024 - 5/19/2024 4:00-5:15pm $350

Students will work on the fundamentals of theatre with lessons and exercises to work on specific performance skills such as character development, voice and movement, expression and emotion, and more!
